La Trobe University in Melbourne has announced a new degree – a Bachelor of Humanities, Innovation and Technology – aimed at combining technical skills of IT with the communication and critical thinking of humanities.

Schools and surveillance: the facial recognition debate

Digital problems have been brought to public discussion most recently with growing concerns about the use of biometrics on the general public. While the use of biometrics – a physical and/or behavioural measurement used to identify an individual – is not new, the use of biometric technology for facial recognition has only come to the fore in the last two decades, and the implications are still unfolding.
