It's this very technology that's helping medical researchers solve difficult health problems like pain management.
But there are also privacy concerns with having this much personal data available to big business.
Valerie Gay, an associate professor in mobile technologies and digital health at the University of Technology Sydney, discusses the benefits and risks involved in using fitness apps.
